My Diabetes Inklings

Stumble, stumble…BREAK!

Christmas time is one of my favourite times of the year. The University shut down period means that it is the perfect time of the year to take some time off. Considering the year that has been, I believe this break is well deserved. Especially with the craziness leading up to the break.

In the few days leading up till I was officially on break, I had a few appointments that did not go so well. The first healthcare professional I was supposed to meet had forgotten to put me in her diary after we had rescheduled our last appointment. Thankfully, she lived nearby and so we worked it all out and had a laugh about it.

My last appointment was a little further away. It took me an hour and a half on public transport since my car was at a workshop. I even left early in anticipation of delays but arrived an hour early. However, no one around the area knew or told me that clinic had been cancelled that day. I had nothing left to do but turn around and go home. Frustrating as it was, all I could really do was laugh at my luck and move on.

Misfortune set aside, that marked the start of my official break! Woohooo! For me, holidays often means no routine, which has made diabetes a little bit more crazy. But a lack of routine has also made me more vigilant in my diabetes.

So far my break has included many feasts and many more walks. It is filled with late nights and sleep ins. Most importantly, it’s filled with spending time with people I love and with lots of laughter. That is really what makes the festive period so festive isn’t it?

Here’s to a great festive season to everyone. May you find the time to take a break from the hustle and bustle of life to relax and enjoy this moment.
